CORONER, ATROPHY, FORCED ENTRY – Foufounes Electriques, Montreal
For Coroner, tonight offered mixed fortunes. Although desperately unhappy with their performance (“every night they say that” laughs Lykins “and every night they play so well”) to these ears this was the best show I’ve seen them do yet, easily eclipsing their recent Marquee date.
But half-way through a 26-date North American tour that has seen the band play to a few hundred souls each night, questions must surely be raised about the validity of Coroner embarking on an ambitious headliner when a good support tour (they have previously opened for label mates Kreator) might have yielded more dividends.
Precise, confident, powerful performances like this deserve more than 300 witnesses.
